Experience Verbs
Experience verbs describe experience or perception, for example:
Kei te hiahia au ki ēra hū.
I want those shoes.
Kei te aroha au ki a ia.
I love him.
Experience verbs usually take 'ki'. There are two exceptions:
kite takes 'i' and
rongo varies between 'i' and 'ki':
I kite au i a ia.
I saw him.
Kei te rongo au i tētahi manu.
I hear a bird.
Experience verbs can be passive:
I arohaina ia e au.
He was loved by me.
